Peter O'Connor was a fighter all his life. As a boy and a young man in the 1920s he fought for a free, independent Ireland. He fought for the rights of workers and the unemployed in Waterford and in London. Demonised by a reactionary church and servile goveerments at home, he never flinched or compromised his principles. In what were the proudest moments of his life, hh laid his life on the line in the struggle against Franco fascism in Spain with the International Brigade in the 1930s. Along with the other surviving members of that gallant band, he was awarded honorary citizenship of Spain by the Spanish government in January 1996. In this spare monograph of his life, his awesome courage and abiding faith in his cause shine through.
